Privacy Act FAQ

This FAQ is intended to answer questions about the Privacy Notice you received with your first quarter statement.

Q. Why did I receive this notice?
A. As part of the new Privacy Laws which go into effect in July, we are required to send the Privacy Notice you received with the language it contained. All financial institutions (bank, credit union, etc.) will be required to implement privacy policies prior to July 1st. and notify their members/customers that they have methods to "opt-out" of certain disclosures.

Q. What type of disclosures may I "opt-out" of?
A. Periodically, we offer our members insurance opportunities through CUNA Member Direct. These mailings are sent on our behalf by CUNA. In order to facilitate these mailings, we release name and address information. Our members may opt-out of receiving these type mailings by contacting the credit union via mail or email.

Q. What other information may the credit union release?
A. Because we rely on other vendors to provide services such as statement printing and check printing we must release account information in the normal course of business; however, our agreements with our business partners are specific regarding confidentiality of the information. While each financial institution is different, Eagle Federal does not release "non-public" information to anyone except in the normal course of business. Some examples of these business purposes include:

If you submit a check order to us, we release information to the check printer which includes your checking account number.

If you write a check to a merchant and they call to determine if the check will clear, we will tell them yes or no without releasing your balance.

If you request a loan, we submit a request for information to the credit bureau which contains your identifying information.

If you transact business at a Service Center or Outlet, they will have access to your account information.

If we receive a lawful subpoena we will comply and release the information requested.
Eagle Federal has never sold a mailing list to others.

Q. What is "non-public" information?
A. Non-public information includes your social security number, account numbers, and balance information. This is information that others do not normally have access to.

Q. How does the credit union protect my information?
A. Only our employees and other authorized individuals have access to information about you and only to the extent that they have a need for the information. We prohibit our employees or other individuals from giving this information to anyone else in a manner that would violate the law or our privacy policy. We do not provide information about you to anyone else unless we first verify who they are and assure ourselves that they have a legal right to obtain this information. We regularly train our employees to ensure that your information is protected.

In the future, you may see other changes as technology catches up -- such as blocking the account numbers on statements.
