When Should You Use the Credit Option with Your Debit Card?

When should you use the credit option with your Debit Card?

Your Eagle Visa DEBIT CARD can be used at all the same places that you use your Eagle Visa CREDIT CARD, and you have the option of entering a PIN at the checkout or selecting the “credit” option to sign for your purchase.

So, what’s the difference?

Debit = use your PIN

Transactions are processed in real time so the transaction generally comes out of your checking account the same day.  Using your PIN allows you to avoid ATM fees by getting cash back at participating merchants. Some transactions over $350 may require a PIN to complete.

Credit = sign for the purchase

Transactions generally take a day or two to be processed and the amount of your transaction may be held in your account. Extra Awards points that can be redeemed for cash, discounted loan rates or higher certificate rates are automatically earned every time you sign for a purchase. And, you have zero liability protection on your “credit” transactions.
